Meet Corey “Tru” Troupe
Insurance professional, Certified Wealth Educator, author, trader, mentor, and father — driven by a story that made protecting families personal.
Protection, education, and opportunity — built from experience.
Corey “Tru” Troupe is a multi-state licensed life insurance and annuity specialist, Certified Wealth Educator, published author, day trader, entrepreneur, and brand builder. Originally from St. Louis and now based in Houston, he helps individuals, families, federal employees, and business owners protect their futures, prepare for retirement, and build lasting legacies.
He didn’t arrive at this work through a straight line. He arrived through setbacks that taught him exactly what happens to a family when there’s no protection in place — and he built a career making sure fewer families learn that lesson the hard way.
I wasn’t born with a blueprint.
Told in Corey’s own words.
01 St. Louis Beginnings
I grew up in St. Louis where survival often came before planning for the future. Like many kids in my neighborhood, I made decisions that could have permanently changed the course of my life.
I experienced things no child should have to experience, and for a long time I believed that was simply the way life worked.
Looking back, I wasn’t lacking potential. I was lacking financial education, mentorship, and direction.
02 Learning the Hard Way
The choices I made came with real consequences. I lost opportunities. I made mistakes. I learned expensive lessons.
Those experiences taught me something that no classroom ever could…
Every decision today affects generations tomorrow.
Today, I don’t hide that part of my story. I use it to help other families avoid the same mistakes.
03 Losing Everything
Like millions of Americans, the 2008 financial crisis changed my life. Everything I had worked to build disappeared.
For the first time, I truly understood how quickly wealth can disappear when it isn’t properly protected. That lesson still shapes the advice I give every client today.
Building wealth matters. Protecting it matters just as much.
04 Starting Over in Houston
In 2014, I moved to Houston with almost nothing. There were days when I didn’t know what the future would look like. I experienced homelessness.
Instead of giving up, I made a promise to myself…
If I ever rebuilt my life, I would spend it helping other people build theirs.
05 When Life Tested Me Again
Just as things were improving, Hurricane Harvey destroyed nearly everything I had rebuilt. It would’ve been easy to quit. Instead, I chose to start over again.
That season taught me that resilience isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you build every single day.
06 A New Mission
I began reading every day. I committed to fitness. I surrounded myself with mentors. I earned my insurance licenses. I studied investing, retirement planning, wealth building, and financial literacy.
Eventually, my mission became bigger than simply making money. It became helping families protect everything they’ve worked so hard to build.
07 Today
Today I’m blessed to serve families across multiple states as a licensed life insurance and annuity professional, author, trader, Certified Wealth Educator, and entrepreneur.
But my greatest title isn’t any of those. It’s being a father.
Everything I build is about creating opportunities for my children and helping other families do the same.
Whether I’m helping someone protect their family with life insurance, prepare for retirement, teach financial literacy in a classroom, or mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs, my purpose remains the same: to help people build, protect, and preserve generational wealth.
Because I’ve learned something through every setback I’ve faced…
Your past doesn’t have to define your future. It can prepare you to change someone else’s.
Why insurance and financial education became personal.
Corey has been on the side of the table where there was no policy, no plan, and no cushion. He has watched families absorb a loss they were never prepared for and try to hold everything together at the worst possible moment.
Insurance stopped being a product to him and became a form of protection he wished more people around him had understood sooner. Financial education became the other half of the job — because a policy solves one problem, but knowledge changes the next generation’s starting point.
Family and legacy — the reason behind the work.
What drives the work.
Transformation
The past explains where someone started. It does not decide where they finish.
Discipline
Consistency over intensity — in money, in health, in business, in parenting.
Protection
Coverage first. Everything else is easier to build once the downside is handled.
Education
People make better decisions when someone finally explains it plainly.
Ownership
Building assets, brands, and businesses rather than renting a life.
Legacy
Measuring success by what continues after you, not what you accumulate.
